Food is the new oil, even if most of the world — including Canada — hasn’t realized it yet

Great @financialpost article about Canada’s potential advantage in agriculture in the future, suggesting food is the new oil. As the growing season gets longer in Canada, it becomes more difficult to grow in other regions. The article notes China controls about 9% of the world’s arable land, but has to feed about 20% of the population. It will need some help in feeding its people. The article also talks about food security and how the Canadian government needs to be more strategic. In our last blog post, Anthony discussed the water advantage we have in Ontario so this notion of agriculture being a strategic asset makes sense. It is an advantage we have in Canada, and Ontario in particular. As more technology is applied to agriculture, the yields should continue to improve and owning the means of production (farmland) seems like a smarter investment with each passing day.
